DJ finds one of the house's windows blinds (the eyelids) opening up, DJ thinking that he is being haunted, prepares to investigate the house with Chowder's help.

An avid video gamer plays the violent Thou Art Dead, which features axe-wielding avatars, a fountain of blood and a mocking skeleton with blazing red eyes. When the cops don't believe them either, Chowder, DJ, and Jenny go to Reginald "Skull" Skullinski for answers. He explains that he has heard about human souls and spirits possessing and merging with man-made structures, turning them into monsters, and that to kill the possessed house, they have to strike at the heart. However, their plan is foiled by police officers Landers and Lister, who arrest them when they find that they stole the cold medicine. Zee thinks that the boys are telling stories and she goes out to find Bones. Dustin James "DJ" Walterson is the titular main protagonist of Sony Animation’s first full-length animated feature film, Monster House. He is a 12-year-old boy who is known for spying on Horace Nebbercracker and his house through a telescope. He acts, and is treated, like a younger boy and is often thought to be crazy.
The trio then sees a dog starting to pee on the Monster House's lawn, the house then grabs the dog with its tongue and pulls it inside just like a frog does. Overhearing this, Constance becomes enraged, uses two trees to lift the house from its foundation, and chases her husband and the children. Nebbercracker tries to comfort Constance and explain everything is for the best, but when she realizes his intent to destroy her with some dynamite, she attacks him. Chowder combats Constance with an excavator from a nearby construction site, into which the trio then lure her. Swings out on a crane's hook with the dynamite, dropping it into the house's chimney and vanquishing Constance. Finally freed, her spirit briefly reunites with Nebbercracker before ascending to the afterlife; he thanks the trio for freeing them from their suffering.

The cops then get eaten by the house as they investigate it themselves; the house then devours their car, though the kids manage to escape. DJ, Chowder and Jenny then fall into the basement and find an enormous collection of toys accumulated from Nebbercracker's lawn, as well as a locked cage that DJ opens with a key he found on the lawn. They find the body of Constance the Giantess, Nebbercracker's wife, encased in cement. They begin to find out why Nebbercracker did this to his wife until DJ accidentally falls onto the body and screams in terror as it cracks open to reveal a skeleton. As Jenny and Chowder were captured by springs and snake-like pipes, DJ walks up the basement stairs until the stairs start to attack him as he climbs up to the first floor.
DJ is given the dynamite, and he and Jenny get accidentally thrown into the huge pit where a lake has been drained. Chowder managed to bring the house down into the pit where it crumbled to pieces. Thinking that they have won, they cheered until the house starts to reconstruct itself by making it a deformed monstrosity.
They continue watching her, until they notice she's heading straight towards Nebbercracker's house. Unfortunately, the house awakens and almost eats her, but DJ and Chowder intervene, and Zee steps outside to tell Chowder that his dad is on the phone looking for him, causing the house to go dormant again. DJ and Chowder see her going to Nebbercracker's house, and they rush out to warn her, managing to catch her before she is eaten by the house. Against his friends' protests, DJ tries to talk some sense with Nebbercracker about the truth behind his wrathful and suspicious behavior. Nebbercracker was at first angry after he has discovered the truth, but eventually relents and tells them their story. Later, Chowder's Dad called DJ as he was worried about him since he wasn't home when his parents got back.
They, much like other people, do not appear to believe the boys at all, but are simply doing their job to make sure they don't get hurt. Mr. Nebbercracker hates kids and confiscates everything that lands on his lawn, telling people to stay off it and from his house due to his knowledge that the house is sapient. Beneath that rotten surface, however, there lies a sad man with justifiable reasons as to why he would behave horribly grumpy.All spoilers are unmarked. DJ was brave enough to think of a plan to destroy the house before it caused severe damage to the neighbourhood and kill a ton of children on the night of Halloween. The three realize that no one is going to believe their experience with the house and decided to keep it to themselves.
